Judging by the smiles, these two definitely hooked up last night.

I’m headed to the Bay area to visit with the other Ken, whose wife also ditched him (yesterday) to walk the Camino with Amanda. They’ve known each other since college and this should be a lot of fun for them, unless it’s like my college roommate who still isn’t talking to me because of that thing.

My wife’s favorite airport ritual is when I ask, Wanna watch me drink a beer? By “favorite,” I mean not at all. But I do it anyway, both the ask and the beer. Today’s IPA on tap:

Beer me.

It’ll be good to spend time with Ken, who seems to have a remarkable three degrees of separation from anyone you can think of, famous or not. He also had a life-long friendship with SCOTUS Justice John Paul Stevens since working with him on an infamous corruption case in Chicago that launched Stevens to national prominence and a seat on the Court. We produced a PBS documentary together on Stevens, and it’s the basis for a feature screenplay I wrote.

Brilliant former SCOTUS clerks . . . and me. (BTW, I don’t know what I’m about to say, but it looks adorable!)

Ken is a smart, fascinating guy and I expect an informed, nuanced discussion about the current Supreme Court while I crush beer cans on my forehead.

Anyway, here’s hoping Ann didn’t mark all the liquor bottles, cuz the two Kens are gonna tear it up, unless we’re in bed before 9.

(*PS: Any criminals reading this thinking I’m away and my house and comic book collection are ripe for picking, this blog is on a two-day delay and I’m already home cleaning my guns.)

Gnarly tree and gnarly church

WHERE THE GIRLS ARE: They’ve landed in Triscatela, named for three castles that once stood here but were razed by Viking invaders in the 10th century. But — surprise! — this little church is still standing.

I forgot earlier to post this amazing pic taken by Kitty, local flora which her friend accurately described as “The sun meets a Native American headdress face.” 😲 It’s enough to make you believe in magic! Or tiny demon flowers.

TOMORROW . . . we’re off to see the baseball men, and Ann finally catches up with Amanda.
